don’t care if i haven’t read about your ocs. don’t care if i don’t know them by name. i still love them because you’ve put your heart and soul into creating them and that’s beautiful

i think it is precious to see writers lovingly rant about their characters, regardless if others know about them or not. please be unapologetically loud about your ocs

So the James Webb telescope just took a picture of a galaxy that is 29 million light years away.

If that wasn’t cool enough NASA decided to peel away all the cosmic dust in order to see the bones of the Galaxy itself.

AND IT’S BREATHTAKING

If you use Zoom, be aware that they’ve decided they’re going to use your input (from both free and paid accounts) to train their new AI tools. And there’s apparently no way to opt out of this. :/

So here are some open source alternatives.

image

Screenshot: The agreement authored by zoom actually says that user generated content is excluded from the machine learning bs, and that it’s the app generated stuff (telemetry, analytics, etc) being used to train AI. Not that that’s much better, but the headline could have been less misleading about that part.

So it won’t be trained on your face but could still have some level of sensitive information

Alternative names for fantasy “golems”?

Since it started as an inconsiderate name grab from Judaism that who’s most famous example was something built to fight against racists and prevent genocide into a mere monster.

While there are more dangerou golems, they were generally monstrous due to being overly literal or “what is life?” philosophy questions.

“Construct” in general is probably good.

Maybe individual less generic names

Puns based on golems are fine I feel to an extent.  And similar concepts aren’t inherently anti-Semitic, but you know…

From dwollsadvantures

Shabti? Or ushabti, ancient egyptian statues made to serve their master after death. Their legs are inscribed with affirmations of how they serve, sort of like a golem’s chem. They are religious, but a religion that hasn’t been really practiced for thousands of years

“Homunculus” (plural “Homunculi”) can mean “fake human”, “model of a human” (like an anatomy dummy), or “human shaped statue”, which feels appropriate for “magical object given a semblance of life”.

They labor endlessly, but must be kept busy lest they turn on their creator. They fit the minion-of-an-evil-wizard role very well, and naturally fill that “magical robot” niche.

Item: animated toolset (but watch out)

Okay I realized a lot of people don’t know about this so there is this really cool product called the Ohnut. It’s made for people with vaginas who have pelvic floor issues. Pelvic floor dysfunction can often cause painful penetration with sex.

image

It comes in a variety of sizes and can limit the depth of penetration while still allowing stimulation for the person with a penis. BUT I realized it has a lot of other uses. Vaginoplasty has a limit on vagina depth (usually 4-6.5 inches) which can be limiting for people with larger partners. This would allow for comfortable vaginal sex with larger partners! And in general for anyone with a vagina with larger partners that cause pain during sex, it would work great for that.

So I thought I’d share about this product because I have never really seen it mentioned online.

Every day i think about those black musicians whose songs were made into covers by white people and now everyone thinks that these are the originals. Youtube comment sections are full of people like “is this what it feels like to find out you’re adopted?” instead of celebrating and promoting the original creators of the songs.

Gloria Jones - Tainted Love

Little Eva - Loco-Motion

Martha & The Vandellas - Dancing in the Streets

James Ray - I’ve Got My Mind Set On You

Big Mama Thornton - Hound Dog

Robert Knight - Everlasting Love

Erma Franklin - Piece of My Heart

The Family - Nothing Compares 2 U (written by Prince)

The Supremes - You Can’t Hurry Love

The Supremes - Keep Me Hanging On

The Top Notes - Twist and Shout

Lord Creator - Kingston Town

The Paragons - Tide is High

Commodores - Easy

And here’s an entire playlist with songs by black artists covered by The Rolling Stones:

no but that’s a different way of reaching blue than the normal way. rather than being pigmented, the physical material structure of the feathers is made up of effectively a keratin sponge full of small air pockets, and when white light strikes those pockets, most wavelengths of visual light cancel each other out, while blue is able to reflect and escape the structure.

so if you really fucked up a Bluejays feather what colour would it be

The natural pigmentation of blue jay feathers is brown, though I suppose it depends on how you fucked it up. I suspect that, being made of keratin, it would be an off-white if you were to grind it into a fine enough powder (speculation because I don’t want to do research it’s like midnight).
